Conceptual Strategy: GETTING STARTED A creative collaboration to kick start your project, we review your work, consider your goals, help focus your theme and look ahead to what happens after your book is printed. Making sure your book has an effective impact is how we define "success," which could include exploring marketing opportunities and publicity potential. $160/hour
Image Selection: GIVING YOUR BEST SHOT THEIR BEST SHOT
The essential—and often difficult!—process of picking out the decisive images for your book from a wide range of choices, is where we can help. An experienced photo book editor also brings a knowing eye to the subtle art of determining the order of appearance, the pacing and layout of images, to create the desired effect: showing your work to its best advantage. $50/hour
Copy Editing: PROFESSIONALISM ON THE PRINTED PAGE (BEFORE YOU GO TO PRINT!)
An experienced editor will check the text you supply (biography, introduction, captions), correcting errors in grammar, and punctuation. The copyeditor will also suggest revisions to clarify meanings, and to create a consistent style. $50 min., up to 7000 words (more than 7000 words: $.02 per word)
Editorial Writing:
An introduction or preface written by an independent voice that talks about your work, placing it in historical context, or positioning your work aesthetically, adds to the quality of your published book. Our editors will compose an opening essay that honestly assesses your work and that you feel comfortable with. We can also help you compose your bio, and any other copy that your book may require.
$150.00 first 500 words ($50 for each additional 100 words)
Proof Reading:
Proofing your text can save you embarrassment by catching misspellings, dropped words, and incorrect cross-references—as well as making sure your margins, headings, hyphenated words, and word spacing are consistent. $50.00 min., up to 7000 words (more than 7000 words: $.02 per word)
ISBN: THE HALLMARK OF A PUBLISHED BOOK
An ISBN number (International Standard Book Number) is essential if you want to commercially distribute (online, bookstores, etc.), or supply copies to libraries. Once purchased and assigned to a specific book and officially registered, the thirteen-digit number reveals to anyone interested the name of the book's publisher, the author (artist), date published, printing source and contact details. An associated barcode, if printed on the book, delivers this information via barcode readers. You can choose an ISBN registration identifying your publisher as A&I Books, Great Circle Books, or your very own imprint. $125 with barcode, $100 without |
